Default Billy's New House... PIC HEAVY

Right well after a grim few days.. (tues to fri) and after looking on here at enclosures i thought i would build something for billy to replace the quick hous i made for him after he came out of hibernation.
we inherited billy from swmbo grandparents... see orig thread here

http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/shell...-old-tort.html

so on sat when it still looked glum and chilly and billy hadn't been very active i drew some plans had some idea's looked on here then got my self of to B&Q to get bits...
the idea.. using stuff i had and new bits, make a house that doubles as a coldframe and with a light for basking on dull days...
thought i would post a WIP type thing to show people how easy it can be as i saw lots of 'who builds frames' ' will rabbit hutches do' 'how do i make a run' type questions. so here goes...

bought 8x4 sheet of ½inch OSB... (cheap than play and is being stained for waterproofing) got it cut in half at b&q so its 4x4 each bit. (so it fit in the van easier)

the length of the house was gonna be 4ft so this made it easier to work out sizes and the 4x4 from b&q SHOULD be square. fingers crossed.

at home cut into this shape.

the top piece being the back. which is the same height as the 2 wedge pieces. little bit of working out got my angle so less cuts were needed.

screw battens to back piece

think it was 2x1 ish battens...

screw back to sides

couple more battens to make it stronger and to fix the other bits too...

decide on size of bed area and cut front piece and cut a internal divider
(my bed area was based on the size of the piece of perspex i had for the coldframe end

i'm using the other piece of 4x4 osb to work on as it helps keep everything falt and square... oh and the sun was out now so billy was out basking and eating (first time in days) and i was sweating making this thing lol... the law of sod...

make entrance to bed end in the divider and using a batten on the back make a tunnel type entrance

this will also give me a place to grow some weeds out of reach of billy but benefiting from the heat of the coldframe...

cut piece for roof

inside bed area

this will have a topsoil substrate in it which is what billy is sleeping on atm... its big enough for her to turn round in and is the same size as what she had.

drill holes in perspex and attatch to frame using screw WITH cup washers so not to split the perspex

and now you get a good idea of how it will look...

now it was getting late and food needed to be had and little boys needed to be bathed so a pic or 2 was forgotten about... basically i added a few more battens to the front where the doorway was gonna be and triple wall roofing stuff was gonna be added as the front.
one side was gonna open on hinges but i haven't done that (had the wrong hindges) but may add it later...
also i added a batten to the rear of the roof piece and hindged that so i can get into the bed end... that roof piece and the perspex overlaps the whole of the base for better protection from rain...

back to the pics...

stain added and you can see the battens for the front door etc...

triple wall cut to size and screwed to the front (again using cup washers) and silicon behind on the frame

the light fitting was being added too and the perspex top also had a bead of silicon around where it attatches to the frame just to help minimise water ingress...

here is a pic of it from the front with the light bulb holder in place...
i have added (cos i had it) stuff that is used in roofing, its lead flashing but has a rubber sticky back that goes off in the sun.
you can see this is over the roof on the bed area, starting low down and overlaying up the roof and i put a strip along the back at the top over the perspex, and a small piece over the electricity entrance hole on the back.

thats it basically...
will see how billy likes it tonight...
some pics here of her trying it out..

any questions fire away...

this isn't in an enclosure as at the min she just has free rain around the garden (which has chicken wire all round it)
depending on how much damage she causes means it may stay like this or she gets a section... will wait and see.

oh should i add anything to it...

thanks..

why not try selling them on ebay for example lots of others do tort tables but I've never seen a house like that, it might be very productive.
