Default Preparing lawn.

Right, so we're getting a spur thighed tortoise next week....we have allocated a space for his enclosure in the garden but our lawn is very weedy. I know the dandylions are scrummy for him but there are also daisies and the odd buttercup growing there. Are they bad for him and if so what do we do about it?

Ive just made my enclosure for my Hermanns, i have dug the lawn up where his enclosure is, and have planted plants - Pansies, Hebes etc, and will be placing an order with www.shelledwarriorsshop.co.uk with various seeds that i will be planting. Most people start leaving tortoises out 24/7 at the start or mid may, so by that time has come, the seeds will be growing nicely

I have a feeling buttercups & Daisies are poisonous, dont hold my word on that though!

Thanks!...I'm sure buttercups are but not sure about daisies? It just seems a shame to dig up the whole area because the grass is really thick and there are loads of dandilions there. I joined the shelled warrior site yesterday

Buttercups and daisies are not toxic if eaten in small amounts, however I would not intentionally feed these. If your lawn has heavy growth of these then I would dig them up. You can dig the dandelions up with the roots and then replant them in the soil.

Yep...I think the tedious task of digging them out individually is what I'll have to do...

how bad are they? are they all over the place or just in small pockets? you could always just stick a big stone over them, or maby put the feeding bowl and water bowl and slate over them?
