Default Bulb Question

I'm keeping my Tort in my room (Horsfield) just now and will probably be there over the summer as I have only had him a month and to afraid to leave him outside on his own (plus I like the company in my room ).

Only problem is, because my room is in the loft (attic, conversion) then it gets hot durring the summer and no doubt my 125 Watt bulb will make it to warm for the tort. I have just managed to get the temp to drop from 50+ to a steady 30-32 C in his basking spot but the light cannot go up any further.

Does anyone know of a good bulb that won't give off much heat but is still good enough for sun light in a basking spot? I seen the ones on shelled warriors shop that are 25W but produce about 100W (UVB 10% UVA 30% or something like that) would these be ok?

I'm not to bothered about the hear myself, have survived it for years now, just don't want the tort to suffer seeing as he is enjoying himself now that I have managed to get the temps correct.

Thanks.

Gary

I am using these with great results in my indoor enclosures (also with lizards):
Androv Limited > Full Spectrum Light Main Section > Daylight Bulbs > Full Spectrum Daylight Bulbs > 32 Watt Bayonet Full Spectrum Daylight Bulb

A few friends are trialing them on marine systems (although 6k is low for marine they are supplimenting with blue light) and have measured outputs. It has a UVB output of approx 12% so comparable with the arcadias or the UV reptile type tubes. They are very bright, stimulates feeding and produce very little heat. They fit in a normal bayonet fitting or you can buy the screw (ES) type if you have screw fittings.

HTH.

You really need to look at getting him outside or he could well aestivate.

Not on their own your tortoise still needs to bask.

Hope this helps

Powersun MV self ballest type heat and UV bulbs can't be used on a thermostat.

Wizzadsmum is right, they should be given access to an outdoor enclosure, natural light and food.

However the light mentioned (linked) above will provide enough light and the correct wavelengths to the animal to function properly indoors IF the other environmental factors are met.
