Default Which Tortoise

I keep lizards but am a complete novice to torts. My wife has been thinking of one for a while now, weve seen a few in various petshops all with conflicting advice!she would like a active one if poss that can be kept in the house in a tort table and obviously go out on sunny days,Ild like some recomendations on which sort to get and of any reliable breeders and suppliers.Shes looked at hermans, marginated and horsefields so far.Cheers

a lot of people say herman torts are the easiest to look after. I have two hermans and they are easy to look after, never had a problem with them. I think horsfields are easy to look after also but they are a digging species so an enclosure would need to be quite deep, maybe 1 foot or so. Hermans can dig, not so much as horsfields, but ive never really seen my 2 do it. Im not sure about breeders, there might be a thread at the top of the page

greek spur thighs or Ibera which I have are also fairly easy and are pretty much the same in their requirements as hermans, they do need a certificate the same as hermans but get bigger than them my adults are around 2200 grams so a bit big to have in the house so need a enclosure and house outside. Having said that most of the hibernating ones do apreciate being outside in the summer and I think are a lot healthier for it.
