Default Animal 24/7 on BBC 2

Just been watching this and the RSPCA got a call out to a family that found a tortoise wandering around their garden.

The officer turned up, didn't know anything about it so took it to a vet, who also didn't know anything about it.

They took it to a lady who re-homes tortoises because she "knows exactly how to care for tortoises and looks after them perfectly"....... cut to a scene of the little hermanns in with mixed species munching on a HUGE pile of lettuce, cucumber and tomato!!!!!!!!

I know that you mean! My mum has a friend who is 'the rspca contact' for tortoises in her area but is rubbish at it!! The rspca are sending these poor creatures to a rubbish environment because they dont know any better!

I had my face in my hands when I saw where they had taken it.

The thing is it's not hard at all for people to find out about their correct care. The RSPCA should really research it properly as people expect them to know their stuff!

I don't understand the people that work for them either, surely they have an interest in animals? So they would want to learn about all species, including reptiles..

Better for them than pellet food.

I much prefer to see animals in a loving home than being attacked by the local foxes or crows.

I saw that, was cringing at the clueless vet and RSPCA officer, looks like they throw any old tort into that womans garden

Also made me laugh that she was gauarenting it would be a terrapin, as torts are too slow to escape and too expensive to be dumped, didnt even knock some local doors to try and find the owner

I'm glad somebody else saw it aswell! The RSPCA girl really had absolutely no clue, I laughed when she said "he's not a baby either, as I think you can get them smaller than this". The tort looked a good 10 years old, lol.

Yeh the terrapin bit was funny also!

Just a shame they don't have a better tortoise re-homer to give them to!

Does anyone actually know if either the TPG or the TT have offered or do work with the RSPCA? maybe instead of slagging them of at every chance it would be better to offer to train their inspectors and rehome reptiles for them. The RSPCA can only send their officers for training at places that they know of and work with them similary where they take the reptiles they find would again be to the people who have offered and been vetted by them, whether we like it or not they are the first people that the public phone when they find a animal that needs help you really can't blame them if none of the big well know names amoung the tort world work with them and they have to use outdated training methods and old fashioned rehomers. Anyone who wants to become a inspector or help with the RSPCA does so because they have a love of animals that doesn't mean they have knowledge of all the different types but their heart is in the right place and can only learn what they are then taught. If either the TT or the TPG do already work with them then I apologise.

So, in conclusion, we can state that the Vet managed to succesfully tramautise Tommy by holding him outside down whilst waving him about. Also, that no-one stated that he was a Horsfield.
