1 or 2?

Hi , i'm going to be getting a hermanns hatchling and i was told they are better off in a pair as they like the company. The breeder has incubated to be girls (obviously not definate). Anybody have any advice?

All I can say is that I wish I had got 2 when I got mine as now if I want another I have to quarentine for at least a year, so 2 set ups etc etc = mega bucks.
Then also you have to be prepared to seperate them if they don't get on - I have been told by some that torts are solitary creatures so don't mind being on their own so really it's something that you have to think about and come to your own decision (secretly though i'd have the 2 - they really are addictive!!!)

I'd get 2 .....but you know you'll get more down the road ....they're addictive

Yes I am almost certain that they are, I can't remember which way around it is but you do get different sexes depending on the incubation temps.

warmer incubation temperatures = females
Provided you get your tortoise from a breeder and not a pet shop I don't see any reason for quarantine

I'd disagree. Breeders get new stock too, which could pass on infections. Anyway, if the tort has been raised with other torts then you may have more chance of them getting on, so you could get clutch mates (I'm sure that's not the right word).

Like everyone else i was going to get just 1 but ended up buying 2.

Really glad i did buy 2 now! Its fun to watch how they interact with each other. Get 2, you know it makes sense

I did that. Mine don't interact, apart from using each other as a ladder to reach the aloe vera.
