Default Help me please!

Hi I have a nearly two year old med spur thighed called hercules <3
Have recently changed his substrate from hay to 80% top soil and 20% sand, as reccommended by the tortoise trust, was wondering how often I have to do a full change opposed to spot cleaning, before I was cleaning him out properly once a week with new hay and cleaning up wee etc every day. I'm slightly confused as there are conflicting opinions on different websites.
Also whilst i'm begging advice regarding his basking and uv, is a combined bulb ok and would a 70W be enough as my 125w kept blowing.

Well this time of the year, your tortoise should be outside enjoying the sunshine most of the day, if not all day and night. So changing inside enclosures soil etc, should be a lot less. During the Spring and Summer changing I would have thought with spot cleaning, once a month, or when you think the soil is getting stale.

I spot clean every day and totally change about 4/5 weeks - this time of year mine are out anyway

As for the light I'd check the temps with a thermometer and dont forget if you're changing from a combined to a spot bulb you'll need to also provide a UV strip/bulb (10% preferably) If you've not had your combined light very long it may be worth speaking to the suppliers
