Exclamation Tortoise On Back...

When i got home from college on tuesday, my tortoise shelby was on her back under the basking lamp. theres nothing that she could possibably climb and fall off.. can tortoises flip themselfs? or how did she do it??

She was probably trying to climb up the sides, and tipped over. Always put an upturned tortoise in a bath. As they dehydrate quickly under heat.
If I am only going to be out for a couple of hours, and I have a tortoise that does this, then I turn the lamp off, and call it a dull day.
But I dont have that problem at the moment as all my tortoises are outside, even last years hatchlings. They get far better UV from the sun and bright light than they do inside.

also would be and idea to have some kind of rough stone that the tort can grip to right itself.one of mine is on it's back at least once a day through climbing the corner of her enclosure.i used to rush to right her but i always give her a chance to do it herself first now just in case she were to do it whilst i am out

our tortoise is quite old now, and she flips herself through climbing every day, at least once...........................we are always putting her upright.
