Pyramiding is where the shell appear bumpy, in species that are supposed to be smooth. This is caused by poor nutrition, over feeding and poor husbandry. Nothing can be done to reduce it but proper diet and care can stop it getting any worse

its wen the shell is all bumpy - most torts should have a smooth shell, it can be due to a number of factors but usually it is caused by poor diet

1 of my torts has slight pyramiding, his is down to me over feeding him, thinking i was doing right by making sure he had all the food in the world and now he's an 8 month old and by the sounds of it the size of a 2 yr old so now i have to try keep him at the same weight and only let him put on a little weight untill he's the right size for his age, i've been told the pyramiding won't go but now i understand more about there diet i can sort him out. i'm currently doing the tortoise trust course, i'm only on lesson one but it's very interesting and i think i'll be very confident when i finish.

just monitoring his weight, if he's putting weight on i know i'm giving him too much so i cut it down, i was using a bowl, which i found out by the people on this forum is a no no, and i was filling it up, i was giving him everything, but i was giving him all the wrong stuff at the same time, i was giving him a massive hand full of lettuce, cut up tomato, grape, melon, strawberrys, sprouts, and cabbage leaves. and that was in one day! now i just feed them on weeds, dandiloin leaves, clovers, grass, chicory (i think thats how its spelt) blackburry leaves, i now use these websites- http://www.tlady.clara.net/TortGuide/Diet.htm#plantlist http://russiantortoise.org/plant_photos.htm . i now give them a couple of leaves a day and spread them round there pen so they have to walk around and look for there food. all this is down to advice i have got on here.

i'm not sure if ur spur can have the same diet as my hermanns, but i can imajine that if it's a herbivore, which i think it is, it probs can have the same weeds as mine. i'm not really an expert on others diets but i don't see why it would be different to mine. how old is yours?
