My hermanns is 111 years old and hibernates in the garden, she pretty much eats what she likes, and at that age I think she is doing just fine Who am I to stop her from eating certain weeds in the garden?

yeah i give mine little tomatoes for a treat aswel but heard if given to many and same with cucumber can give them a runny tummy ..

mine all love cucumber/strawberry's and tomatoes on a hot day they have a little something in the middle of the afternoon and I only have to call them and they all appear, we have a fig tree over hanging part of the garden and the birds normally get the odd fruit before us but the other year a really squidgy one fell into Tootsie's and she loved it with a capital L, she was all gooey and sticky but I suppose they must find the odd fallen fig or date where they live in the wild and don't some parts have funny little ground growing melons, I know the elephants find them in the nambian desert.

Yess Ann it's when the weather is really hot, giving such fruits do hydrate or little darlings, to think in the wild they would eat what they want to, humans are not there to judge! Mother has a fig tree in her garden, I bet Tommy munched on that too when she was there!

yeah ive not experienced anything nasty (apart from stinky backside mess from when it isnt in the tissue right )

is melon ok for them? the yellow gala ones i think it is as i have some in my fridge

the list i have of acceptable foods is only short .. i need make it bigger so i have more choice

oo agnore last bit .. melon is on my list of acceptablr fruits

Thats a really good point about them eating what they want in the wild!
Never thought about it like that before...

Mine have only ever had strawberry (The odd one off the plants before I get hold of them) which they love, but their new favourite thing is Geranium flowers.

Dunno about melon, never given it to my tortoise! But as you said there are different types of melon anyway!

oo ive just grown lots of nasturtium (sp) for my tort and she loves them .. and we can eat them too if ya fancies it .. they smell quite nice aswel
