Default External Filter Help

Hi

I have just bought a TetraTec ex600 for my Terrapin tank and am having probems with it.

The water is not circulating as it should/at all. It is going to the top of the 'in' pipe before going back down again, the same is happening with the 'out' tube, it goes right to the top before falling back down again. This has continued for 24 hours, although a trickle does go over evey so often.

I have set it up as per the instructions and an instructional online video. The only thing I didn't do is cut the tubes to a shorter length.

Does anyone know where I am going wrong?

Also I have just added a floating island to the tank but my terrapins haven't been able to get on it yet, whenever they try, they just fall backwards.

Should they be able to get up with ease by swimming up to it or do they need something to stand on?

(I have two 4 year old yellow bellied sliders)

Any advice would be much appreciated

you might have some air trapped in the tubes.

as for the floating docks they should be able to get up without standing on anything. just give them time they will figure it out.
heres one of mine getting up

Hey, I have a Tetratec EX2400 and I had problems at 1st...

make sure the filter is directly below the tank with the hoses as short as possible and pump on the siphon like crazy until you see water reaching the same level as the tank water in the output hose, then plug in. Also make sure the airbleed screws on the tank in/outputs are tightened up until water is flowing.

I had mine run dry once and it stopped working, but after leaving it for a while and replugging it back in, it was fine. I assume it has a cutout feature!

Thanks for the good advice,

I've cut the tubes shorter and re positioned it and it is working better. It's not quite as constant as I expect it can be, but it's certainly an improvement

Hey

For some reason it won't let me put any photos on. I'll keep trying tho.

It's still not working as it should.

Should I empty the water out and and set it up from scratch again?
