Default Plants for herman tort enclosure

I have had my 1 yr olf hermans for a weeks now, i am keeping it in a table top enclosure with a small house for it to hide away and topsoil/sand substrate. i also have some slate, plant pot to hide away in and feeding points, i want to make it exciting so it can have some fun exploring, some plants stones etc, does anyone have any suggestions on plants that i can put in there, i dont want them to be over eaten and ones that would survive under heat. also any hides or terrains that your tortoises have enjoyed. thanks

Aloe vera and cacti, are about the only ones that will take the heat.

Sorry to the OP for using this thread to ask, but the question is basically the same, i have bought a mix bag of seeds, contains Plaintains, Clover, nipplewort, chiccory, welsh poppy, campunula to name but a few. I know these are ate by tortoises, however the above post stated out that some plants wont be able to take the heat . How do you guys grow your own weeds and edible flowers? surely you dont just grow them then pick em and give it to the tort? I thought it would be easier and more natural (for the Tort and looking of the table) if you cold grow there food in there home?

To the OP, sorry again, but i think my Question can help us both understand what we need, plus you asked for types of plants for your wee tort, hope my list helps abit (Although, as i stated i do not know if these will withstand the heat)

some of the plants will be ok if they aren't directly under the heat and are watered everyday, I also spray them with the rest of the table, its no different from keeping them in the house. I have pansies and chickweed in mine I've also had some luck with seeds comming up.

My weeds are grown in the garden, in pots to start with, and the plants left to sow seeds. This helps more weeds to grow in my garden.
If you are trying to grow them this time of the year, then a sheltered spot in a large pot, with a piece of glass/plastic over the the top will help germination.

My weeds are in my windowsill in a seed tray

What i do is get some cheap soil

The a layer of limestone (calcium) soil, then limestone etc - plants then take in the calcium

My weeds are huge!! after a week and i pick what i want and feed them to my babies

I grow some weeds on the windowsil for Stewie's dinner, but he's got some plants planted in his house too...

He did have all sorts of pansies and rocket and other nice tasty things, but they only lasted a week or so before he'd eaten it all and flattened it... BUT last weekend I dug up some lawn from the garden and put it in his house. He's got about a quarter of the floor space as long grass and he loves to explore it. It's in the cooler area so doesn't get effected by the heat and gets watered every day. He goes for an explore in it every morning.

weve just experimented and cornered off a section so our tort won't find the seeds whilst they r startin to grow...we planted them in shallow cut off cress boxes, with plastic bag under it to prevent the water going through to the wood....and covered them with lots of soil! Hopefully it will grow and we can take them out the plastic and keep them in the table.

Hopefully....ha!!! Ive never grown plants before in my life hehe!

Oh and we bought the weed and plant mix from shelledwarriors.com

Good luck, let us know how you get on!!!
