Default The joy of a tort (indoors) !!!!!!

Now don't get me wrong... I love my tort, we grew up together.
Of course he's several decades older than me so I guess that makes him my
"sugar daddy"?
But does he have to have a massive poo and wee on the first day that he's
been brought indoors?
I didn't even have time to get his bath out (deep plastic tub ) before he did it!
My mop will never be the same... I guess I'll have to buy a different one for the kitchen floor
Anyway Jinx has come in for the winter and I've bought shares in a disinfectant company!

Horatio always does massive ones too. I don't mind too much to be honest. I have all hard floors for a reason and the kitchen has the original quarry tiles in and I keep a toilet roll on the dresser for a quick swipe up. I mop the floor every morning but I'm not going to do it more than once a day. Life's too darn short to be getting mimsy about a bit of poo.My lovely rayburn takes care of the poopy bog roll.

Jinx is in the utility room... and believe me a bit of of loo roll or kitchen roll
will not clean up what he does! One half a roll of either would almost do the job. Mop and Detol just about does the job

I think you need to get him to a vet then as something is obviously wrong. My large 54 year old spur thighed doesn't do anywhere near what you imply yours does. After all, they can only put out what went in. Horatio has a pretty large appetite too and has a little dish full of soaked pellets daily but still doesn't do anywhere near like something which needs half a loo roll to clean up. Nor does it stink particularly and even if it did smell a bit I'd rather that than the stink of dettol.
Do you have a specialist tort vet near you? I think yours needs to be seen. Perhaps he needs worming ? copious and stinking poops are certainly not normal.

My leopards do a huge amount too - i use loo roll and flush it - but without sounding to disgusting there is more than a hand full.

My female Leopard could easily fill a coffee mug when she goes

well Horatio's are like this. I found this image on a tortoise site showing a 'normal' poop an d urates. Perhaps it's leopard tort thing if they are able to half fill a coffee mug

please excuse the rude interuption, but why do you pay for tortoise food?

all the food they'll ever need is found for free in the great outdoors!

although thats dependant on certain species of course.

why don't you pick a big bag of tortoise weeds on a dog walk?

This has all been covered in past threads and posts. I am a smallholder with livestock and can tell you that weeds and the like have very little nutritional value at this time of year. Hence livestock need supplemental feeding with sileage and hay so weeds will be of virtually no benefit. I do not walk my 25 dogs as I have land. If I did walk them, I would not feed anything I could pick to any of my animals as it may be contaminated by agricultural sprays, dog pee or other pollutants.
There is nothing wrong with feeding pellets.

i was just wondering, thats completely your choice if you want to pay for your tortoise food. however there are still plenty of good weeds about.
