Say Hello To Sheldon...
...my new turtle. Well, actually it's a very late (like a year and a half late) 6th birthday present for Matthew who's been asking for one since he was 5 (he's now 7).
 Anyhow, I've spent the last eighteen months fruitlessly searching for a small species of turtle but alas, the only species to be found within a 200 mile radius are Yellow Bellied Sliders (YBS) whereas I was hoping to find a Musk Turtle or male Mississippi Map turtle.  So I eventually had to give in and buy a YBS hatchling as I've had everything else for ages - the tank, the filter, the heater, the UVA and UVB lights, the decor, the food, the cuttlefish, the vitamins, the water treatments, the floating platform, the thermometer, the hygrometer - and I thought setting up a fish tank was complicated!  So here he is - Sheldon: named after after my favourite character in "The Big Bang Theory." Well, it seemed kind of apt given the "shell" reference...although I'm not sure as yet what sex it is. So if it turns out to be a female, then I guess it'll be Shelley.        Some photos of the tank setup which I think turned out quite well. This is only a two foot tank which I know will only last a year or so at most after which I have to get a four foot tank whether the OH likes it or not...

Btw, here are some shots of the carapace and plastron so if someone could sex him/her for me, I'd appreciate it.
