You can dress up a plasterers bath, even give it a paneled frame, like you get for baths, if you know what I mean! Have it on the floor so you can see in it from above. I personally wouldn't try modifying it though, as you might mess with it's ability to support all that water, and it's watertightness. By doing so you may give yourself continued work re-sealing it.

Keep an eye out for tanks on gumtree and freecycle though, you may get lucky and find a big one going for a lot less. I believe that pets at home also sell 4ft tanks for about £50 (since they sell tanks and hoods separately and you don't need a hood) but I'm not sure what the other dimensions of those are. They may be too narrow/shallow for an adult YBS, particularly a female. I could be wrong about that price too, I think I read it from someone else on here

Bear in mind though, that if you do get a YBS, if it turns out to be female, you're looking at a potentially foot long adult turtle! It may well outgrow that 4ft tank

Bear in mind that plasterer's baths, whilst excellent and relatively cheap, are not neccessarily suitable homes for life for some of the larger species, especially if you wanted to keep more than one in the same enclosure.

I do like that idea because I have space in the sun room for one to sit on the floor. Plus if it's right near the window, a basking lamp would conveniently sit on the windowsill and there are sockets for plugging in a filter and water heater. With nice decor and floating plants, it would be like having an indoor pond! For an adult turtle, how deep should the water be?

As deep as you can make it really. YBS are excellent swimmers, so will appreciate as much water as possible.

If you fancy this idea and have a convenient space for it in your sun room, you should get a pre fabricated pond. You get them up to 4ft deep, maybe even deeper. You can then do a nice frame around it and dress it up as you say with plants etc. Bigger and cheaper than getting huge aquariums!

Might be an idea for you to start sorting now, for when Sheldon outgrows his current tank. If you get one big enough you wouldn't need to upgrade again, and if you start looking for bits now, you might find them cheaper/free in local classifieds. If not though, you can really spread the cost as you've got a reasonable amount of time

Nice one. The sunroom is really just an overflow playroom for the kids and is full of junk so it would be great to have it as a feature room for the turtle. Also, there's room outside on the patio for an outdoor pond in the summer which would be great. Ooh, I'm all excited as I love a project...

See, it's not a problem that you weren't able to get a musk or male map, you've got space and willingness to provide for an adult YBS. Well done you

I love a project too!
