The majority here are pretty wicked, and real good advice too. the debates that go on are sometimes fun, but yeah, good stuff, keeps me unbord sometimes at work.

Have a question! Have a C.H. redfoot she is about 6/7yrs old i keep her on a substrate of sand/soil/sphagnum moss, but the moss drys out so quickly even when i spray her house 2/3 times a day, any ideas how i can keep it damp for longer?

Use more water each time you spray? I dont know mate as i dont have a red and dont use the moss Want to get a red eventually though when i have more space!

Couldnt you possible use a thicker layer? then as you spray it, tturn it over, mix it up, then the bottom areas will stay damper for longer as they arent so exposed to your heat source?

no problems.

I would imagine the thicker the layer, the longer it will take to dry out obviously. So really thats ther only thing i can thnk of. Is the moss only over a certain area of the table? or your whole top layer? Because maybe you could move it away from the heat source? I use readigrass/topsoil at the moment, 3/4s of table is soil and 1/4 is grass so if you do similar with the moss you could move it to a cooler area of your tables? Nice new change for the tortie too

Question on my side now.

Is there anything you can add to tables to spice it up proper for torties? I have plants, different substrates, rocks lalalala but just wandering if they have anything they like to play with? move around etc etc etc?

Try adding orchid bark. It holds the moisture well. I use the coarse stuff and make sure it is well wetted before you add it as it will rewet better. It the tort in an open table or a viv? If its in a table near say a radiator thats on at the moment it will dry out quickly. Also I use a pressure sprayer rather than a hand help pump action sprayer to deliver more water and a ledd fine spray.
