Default Terrapins together

Hi guys got my new tank up and running and my ybs in it she now has a large basking area shallow pool with sand bottom and the rest of the tank full of water. The water level is 20 inches high in a 4ft by 18inch tank. I keep the water heated but only to room temperature this is purely a backup to prevent to much variation in the temperature. I have an internal filter in there at the moment which im cleaning regularly in tank water and doing changes using distilled water. Il get an external in a few weeks when i get paid ive found a 1500l one brand new 4 150. Gota love maidenhead aquatics

Shes 7inches and due to mistreatment and being handed around i have no idea on age.

Anyway thats my setup so il get back to my point. She looks lonely please sir can i have some more? Id love to get her a friend is this ok?

Well you probably dont need to have the heater nor, 7" shes prolly mid adult age.

Female YBS, mayb e you can get another female, i would try and avoid a male maybe thats just me. I had a map with my 2 YBS but she was very timid and often lost out to food etc. Also, the 4ft tank isnt going to home much more for any longer than a year or so so thats another cost to think about Ste.

I hear you ordered the table for tortie? Great stuff get some pics up when its done

They don't need companions as such, it'll just be someone to compete against for food and the best basking spot. Bear in mind that your girl could reach 12" in shell length, and will need a larger tank before that. Also new arrivals should be quarantined for a couple of months, do you have the equipment etc for another setup?

Is that a filter that's intended for 1500 litre tanks, or is 1500 litres just the flow rate?

If it's the flow rate then the filter will be rated for rather smaller tanks than that, and £150 could be quite a lot for what you get.

Thinking about it if it's 1500 litres tank size then that's going to be one huge filter, I'm not sure such a thing is even available so I'd suggest it's more likely the flow rate, do you know what make or model it is?

OK, I thought it might be an FX5 and you're right, it is rated for up to 1500 litre aquariums, you can get them for less than £150 though, on eBay they are as little as £125 BIN inc delivery, maybe less if you can be bothered to bid on an auction one.

One thing to consider though, the FX5 consumes over 50W, and considering it's running 24/7/365 that makes it quite expensive to operate, there are equivalent filters around, usually a bit more expensive initially, that have much lower operating costs.

Thats a good point graham. With my beardie, frog terrapins, chicks and fish tanks the elec bill is a little on the large size. I do try and go for the low wattage lights etc. I may be rehoming another beardie soon as someone has to get rid asap so its gonna get quite expensive lol. Im a sucker for animals in need! My other problem lies in the positioning of my tank. I can put the filter below the tank if i wreck some furniture but would rather buy one that can pump from above if theres a decent one on the market that anyone knows of? Itl need to be 1200L +
