Default Blue Peter Tort

does anyone watch blue peter? my freind who does said they boxed up Shelley the tort today, I asked her how long was the wind done period and she said the presenter said that the tort went for a week without food then was boxed. Is that right? I always thought it was around 4 weeks, could she have heard wrong?

No Blue Peter isn't right.... It is no wonder they have gone through so many torts over the years. I can think of Fred, Freda and George before Shelley, and when you think that they should live to be over 100 years old it just shows the care they get!!

Torts should be wound down for about 4 weeks (for the biggies) and 2 weeks for the tinies. Mine will start wind down next month, then into the fridge before the New Year and wake up in March. Wish I could sleep for three months!

In the 60's they went through a stint of having a new tortoise each year without telling viewers it was a different tortoise!

I wondered if my freind had missheard but looking at the webs this is a fairly recent tort and like its been said they do seem to have had a lot of different ones. I assume that noone else saw the programme? I haven't watched it for years but surely they must have advise etc from a reputable source, after all they are teaching all those children how to care for the different pets.

If you look carefully each year they tend to have a different tortoise
And have been giving out duff information for years and years, ever since they have had a tortoise on BP.

thats a bit drastic wouldn't it be easier to try to get the TT or another society to send them a caresheet or maybe even get in touch with the programme, they must get their imformation from someone, I know the animals are looked after by members of the public, my freind's grandparents used to have the older dogs years ago, I wonder who has the tortoise?

you can lead a horse to water but cant force it to drink springs to mind. You can send them 1000 copies of the caresheets, but i am sure they probably had them when aquiring the tort.

Perhaps the banning them a tad extreme, but we like extremem right? joking aside, maybe they should just have a recognised trust such as TT or so approach them. Might be good, but i would imagine that surely someone in the TT would have noticed this by now? They are the specialists after all.

To be honest, I'm actually surprised that an institution such as BP has been getting away with this (for want of a better phrase) for so long! Why have people (such as the TT) not intervened already?

It's obviously not a secret how they care for the torts, and that they have a new one often.
