Default Asparagus

Hi... can hermanns tortoises eat asparagus. I have some left in the fridge with a couple of days of life left, but I don't think i'll be able to eat it all... Could Stewie have some?

I don't know whether it will do any good but can't see that a once in a lifetime treat would do any harm

My horsfield loves asparagus. We only eat asparagus ourselves occasionally, so when we do I always give Frank a few leaves from the bulb (if that makes sense). We have also found that if you slice the stalky bit that you snap off before cooking really finely, she loves that too. I suspect larger torts could handle it unsliced, but Frank's only little at the moment so she struggles to bite through it if it's too thick. As above, great for a treat, but not every day. Mind you, if you can afford to feed your tortoise asparagus every day, you're a richer man than I!!

Personally I dont feed my meds (including Horsfield) any fruit or veg - its not recommended as part of their diet

Asparagus is low in oxalate which is good, but high in protein which is bad, so like has been said, definitely shouldn't be a staple part of the diet. But if you wanted to give as a rare treat, then I'd doubt it would do any huge harm. But not too much and not too often

this weed thing furstrates me hehe. So much stuff i look and think oooh i am sure my lil man is going to like them but i dont see it as approved. I have got 2 different coloured flower plants of the Chrysanthemum species. Colour wont affect whether he can eat them or not right? He only eats the flower itself. he absolutely loves them to bits, i havent ever seen him demolish anything else so fast....

I don't think colour affects whether they're safe or not, but you have to be careful when feeding plants you've bought, as they could contain chemicals from being treated in store, which don't wash off, cos they're inside the plant, if you know what I mean! It's recommended generally to weather them and feed new growth. You could probably speed it up by cutting the flower heads off, then waiting for new ones to appear. I'm no gardener, but that way at least you'd know they were new growth, and safe

Meant to say as well, if you can't find something you've found growing in the sticky, post some pics and people will probably know what it is

lol yeah i know that daw....i mean snailgirl.

Thing is, i dont think B&Q would appreiciate me having a photo day in their gardening section

The camanula flowers and hibiscus (sp?) are they all sound? Planting me old nans garden ain't I and B&Q got some smexi deals on at the moment.

Never gardened before

How longs these heads take to grw back? We all know my patience level is that of a 3yr olds with regards to certain things.

you and your impatience! Not sure how long it takes to grow back. When you get a little supply of plants and stuff for feeding, you'll not notice until they're back cos you'll have other things to feed. It's just getting started that's a pain!

Campanula and hibiscus are both fine. Sod B&Q, take as many pics as you want! If they ask, I'm sure they'd be interested when you tell them it's for a tort. Most places are!
