Default External Filter

Can anyone help me with suggesting good external filters that aren't too pricey?? I need to change my terrapins filter and have an internal one and it's doing nothing, the tank is quickly going back to green.
Anything at this point would help!!

Thanks

How much have you got to spend? Eheim classic 2217 is the next filter I am going to buy. A lot of filter for your money

I currently use Rena XP filters, which are great, but the Eheim classics come in proportionately bigger capacities for less cash. All good

Thank you will look into them. What sort of price am I looking at for one of those though??
Also while i'm talking to you what is best for cleaning out the tank (obviously nothing with harsh chemicals, or maybe even any chemicals).
Thanks for your help.

When I clean I just use hot water no chemicals or detergents at all. I scrub then boil anythng I'm going to use for decor.

with really big tanks its possible to use a pond cannister filter and a pond pump in the tank, it works very well and both items are far cheaper than aquarium items, all you need to do is add denser/different medium to the filter, also as the filter doesn't have a powerhead the only thing that can go wrong is the pump and they can be picked up very cheaply.

Whats the difference between the 2213, 2215 and 2217 is it just to do with the tank size/Or amount of water?

Hi,

I have two Eheim 2213 on my Trigon 190 aquarium, each is supposed to pump 390 l/hr and be suitable for tanks up to 250 litres, these figures i find a little optomistic, hence why I have two!

The upside though is that I completely clean 1 every six months whilst the other maintains it's bacterial colony, and if one breaks down the other will be a failsafe.

They are excellent filters though, the little clips can be a problem, try to get the plus model with the doubletaps.

A tip I was given from people on here, was to get the biggest (filter size) possable that you can afford.

I've got two exturnal filters on my to tanks.

One is a Ehiam Eco300 - this is only for one turtle now, hes in a 36x12x18 tank.
I also now have a Ehaim Classic 2217 on its way for the Musk turtles... they are in a same sized tank, but I have 3 in that one, so it requires more cleaning

Personally, I love the Ehaim, so easy to maintain, parts are everywhere, and ehaim keep spares on the shelf after a product has ceased production for 10 years!!
