Default Do tortoises recognise voices?

This may seem silly but I am sure that my tortoise can recognise my voice. Each time I talk to him he seems to stick his head out further and make a nodding action which he doesn't do for my husband or sons. Is this a stupid idea of mine or do others have the same experience? (perhaps I am just hopeful as he is my baby)

I'm sure they know the voice that usually feeds them, mine come when called but its probably because I might have something nice rather than just a hello, however if I have someone around then the torts will come over to have a look. I'm sure they respond to love and kindness and learn to trust people mine don't hide away in their shells even if they don't know the person including the vet.

They usually know if a noise come above them, then food is on its way.
So whether they know individual voices who knows, but they do know when food is coming.

I would say yes difinatley tortoises recognise voices, my leopard who ive had sine fairly young knows my voice, my family can be in same room and talking and he doesnt take any notice but as soon as i say something he comes over, dont know whether its as simple as im the main feeder of him, and he just associates my voice with food. Its kinda cute though...

It is cute, even if it is just about the food I talk to mine all the time, and give them little chin rubs. I don't even need to speak to get them rushing over to me, as soon as they see me they get that hopeful look in their eyes!

Definately my Timmy really knows me... yet he'll hide if other people pick him up.. hes definately more hesitant with others. Yet he knows my partners too, he will come out for him aswell.
