Default new turtles

picked up 2 new baby cooters yesterday they are tiny. they are in the kitchen in a 2ft tank with external filter, sand for substrate, heater,a cork dock one end.rocks the other end which they seem to love climbing on. the question is uvb and basking i dont really want 2 separate lights one for basking and one for uv so want to know if the comb's are any good and who uses them.

mercury vapour bulb? just an idea i think there are a few people on here that use these. i still like to use the two seperate ones a 10.0% uv tube and a cheap and cheerful house hold spot bulb for the heat light.

EDIT: oh and we will all want to see pics of the cuties

Yes "combis" are great, much better than seperates, but less suitable for such a small tank because of the amount of heat they emit over a fairly wide area, they are more suitable for larger tanks.

If I were you I'd stick with seperates for now, a compact UVB and an ordinary spotlamp are ideal, you can use a couple of Clamp Lamp holders to mount them. When you upgrade the tank, which you'll need to do in a few months time with a pair of fast growing young Cooters, then you can think about switching to a Mercury Vapour or Metal Halide lamp.
