hi there i got my torte yesterday i have a couple of dandelions in my garden but not enough. the person i got her from was feeding her on cabbage and sprouts but had been over feeding her. i went and got her some florette crispy salad from tesco. it was £1 for a big bag which will prob last the week. i have just recieved a batch of tortoise weed seeds so have planted them today so will be a few weeks before i can feed her them at least. you could do the same? for the seeds and the seed tray it was no more than £5 i know im a novice but i have had so much good advice from the people on here and this is what i have been told to do. my little one is not really interested in eating to much today lol she is more interested in sleeping !!

Have a look here http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/shell...r-feeding.html

It has a guide for loads and loads of plants that are safe, and the first post in the thread has a link to the TT winter feeding guide. You'll be surprised how much there is!

It's not wise to feed only one thing all the time, and dandelions should be fed carefully, as they are a diuretic. Also, be aware that any plants/flowers you buy from a supermarket/garden centre will probably have been chemically treated, so should be left to weather for a few weeks, and only feed new growth.

You can also buy packs of seeds to grow your own weeds indoors throughout winter.

This whole feeding lark takes a bit of organising, but once you get sorted and past all the faffing at the beginning, you'll have a never ending supply of good food

I always advise people to have a search in their gardens and take some pictures of weeds and post them on here for us to Id.
There is lots of this in my garden at the moment

It can be really difficult in winter. Get some tortoise friendly seeds, and plant them in pots on your windowsill.

Also, why not find somewhere out of the way where you can pick weeds for your torts. As long as it's not near a busy road and doesn't get sprayed it will be fine.

I always think not having to find food is one of the benefits of hibernating!

Remember and give a anything you pick outside a really good wash before feeding it though. If you go for a walk with a carrier bag, you can pick lots, then take it home, wash it and keep it in the fridge in an airtight container. It'll last for a while.

No not the flowers, that would be so wrong (plus they would have all been squited with chemicals and the like yuck!) just the weeds, in fact I think as well as providing food for Thomas I am doing the place a service doing their weeding for them!
