does anyone know why she is sleeping a lot and not eating much? she has had about 3 mouthfulls since yesterday lunch time, i havnt seen her drink but sh had a bath yesterday and then one today and there was mud in her water dish. she also dosnt seem to like the sand topsoil substrate as she keeps trying to rub her eyes as its sticking to her. hmmm

Am sure she'll pick up when you've got the right basking light sorted out - if you only have a UV at the moment she probably isn't warm enough - when they're not warm enough and cant bask properly they dont function properly and eat properly.

Keep up the baths cos she'll be taking water in through her tail even if you dont see her drinking so dont worry about that

Maybe try 100% top soil - sometimes the sand can be a little too drying - I use just top soil now as I had problems with using the sand as well - also you can spray the table with a bottle of water to help stop drying it out

Hope some of that helps

1) Your tortoise isn't doing much because it feels rough

2) You need to keep it hydrated and warm 24/7

3) Ditch the sand / soil for the time being & use newspaper or aspen instead. Sand / soil can (& will) play havoc with your tortoises eyes.

4) It sounds like this animal needs a course of antobiotics (I'm not a vet & am just going on my experience) - time is of essence vis a vis a trip to the vet.

Best of luck
