kelly11 - this thread has got a bit confusing but I think the best way forward is for you to take your tort to a specialist vet.

I only have redfoots (which do not hibernate) but I do read about med species too. I don't think anyone would advise you to hibernate your tort untill you are sure it is settled and healthy. Read anything about overwintering and especially RNS and take the tort to the vet. Do not just assume it is trying to hibernate (it might but I don't think it is worth the risk without checking for illness first).

Bubbles are a worry, they can happen after bathing (not serious) and can also be a symptom of RNS (serious). Again not eating can be a settling in period. We just don't know, hence the vet recommendation. Do make sure you find a tort experienced vet. If you want recmmendaions then its probably best to make a new thread to ask for local vet details.

Hope tort is ok and ask any questions you think of.

I did think that you thought it could be ill more that it might be hibernating but the thread got a bit confused! Hope the he is ok and please ask if you need a local recommendation.

A slight side point is that vets can help with the illness side - should it be appropriate - but their views on housing and feeding may vary with that you read from other sources like forums. Which advice you follow is up to you. I'm a mix an match type depending on various elements, it is up to you to work it out. Its a difficult time of year. Just make sure your tort is checked for nasties in the first instance.

It does sound like gaping which is another sign of rns, and a vet visit is getting more urgent.
Keep him/her warm and bathe in tepid water to keep hydrated. Vet visit urgent.

So sorry Kelly - tortoises are such complex little things - sometimes they dont show signs of being ill until they are really poorly.

RIP little one
