Default My Trusty Makita and I....

...started my new tort table today! Huzzah! Here's a pic of the progress made so far. I'm having a coffee break. It's what DIYers do. I may do more tonight. Maybe, if the OH wants to go dig for his hacksaw in the shed. I would, but there's spiders in there. Lots.

It started off as 2 separate, almost square shaped units. One had cupboard doors and one shelf inside, the other had 4 open cubby holes. I took them apart, then put them back together again, like this, to make the basic shape of what is going to be a bit over 5ft long, and about 2.5ft wide. I used the wood that did comprise the 4 cubby hole to extend the length.

Cost so far £0

Estimated total cost £6 (2 bags of topsoil. Maybe £5 if the last offer is still on)

The fact I am making it myself, with help from no man (or measuring tape, so far!)

I am going to cut an archway through the dividing bit towards the left hand side. Break up line of vision and all that. The 2 separate bits aren't joined together yet, cos I'll have to unscrew to make the archway.

Pics a bit crap cos I took it on the webcam, couldn't be bothered going all the way upstairs for my camera. Me, lazy? Nah, I've been DIYing

Why thank you

Not sure what the OH will say though when he comes home in about 10 minutes and sees I've borrowed one of 'his' units from 'his' study...

Hi,

It's looking good and a big well done to you

If your OH says something....just say it's for the greater good (Tortie) and the cost of a new Table won't be going on HIS credit card or out of his bank account!

Post pics when you have finished.

Jingle Bells

Ta everyone. The 2 bits are now screwed together (with the archway cut ) I'm away to go and put a few bolts through it as well. Will get another pic soon. Should be ready to get its lining tomorrow.

DIY is fun. I just used a jigsaw for the first time ever (I am on first name terms with the drill though), and my floor is a mess, an I haven't even started on the tea, but it's all good
