Default Tort Table Sealant?

I'm going to get some decking boards and some ply and make some tables for the team, just wondering if someone can remind me what type of sealant is to be used, and is sealant def necessary - the tables will be for stars, margies and hermans

cheers

You're safer sealing it, to prevent any moisture from the soil getting through to the wood, and it's easier to clean if you line it as well. You could not bother, but your table wouldn't last as long.

If you're going to seal it, you can of course use aquarium sealant, but anything as long as it's an acetic cure and remains inert once cured, is fine. It should state this on the bottles, but if in doubt seek out someone who looks like they'd know (!) and ask.

I personally would recommend lining your table with something like lino, or lino tiles, then sealing the joints between them. You can also use pondliner. But you could use varnish instead, which would mean you wouldn't need sealant. Then you could just paint the whole table with a few coats of varnish, and leave it for a while to get rid of any fumes, and robert's your mums brother.
