Default *please please help- urgent*

Ok, so I have two spur-thighed tortoises,
This is going to come across like i'm a really bad owner and have no care for my tortoises, but i love them dearly, just was told nothing on buying them.

They are about 6 years old, i put them down for their first hibernation this year after starving them for about 3.5 weeks, i put them each into a double walled cardboard box filled with shredded paper and then itself in another box. I then put this box down in my garage. Although i don't think that this was cold enough for them. When i went to go and check on them (as i did daily) after about 5 days, i noticed that they had faeces in the boxes, so i immediately took them out and put them back into their table, with lights.

One of the two was very keen to go into hibernation, and would not come out of the sleeping house that they have inside the enclosure. So i placed her back into her box, although this time placed the box inside a small fridge that i own (stays around 5 degrees Celsius throughout the day and i open it twice daily for air flow.) Although the other one left in the enclosure is still very slow and doesn't move much, but i have fed her food.

Also, today i noticed that the 'hibernating' tortoise in the fridge was moving around, so clearly not hibernating. I do not know what to do and would really appreciate some help, i know i have done wrong and i am a terrible owner, but I was never told anything by the person who sold me my tortoises. I am really worried that my tortoises might die and i'm not sure what would be suitable to do, it's really late in the year now so i don't really want to have to hibernate the one who hasn't been hibernating, although she is being very slow. I fear that they will be very underweight and dehydrated.

I feel like a terrible murderous person.
Please help me any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
x

first off , its no good just putting them in a garage without making sure the garage is cool enough, the garage needed to be below 10c 24/7 , if your garage isn't cool enough what about using the fridge.
