Default He, She, Victor, Victoria.....It..

Just a random question here..nothing to do with temps..or food or anything to do with tortoise care..

I was just wondering how all of those that have got an unsexed tort decided on a name...well more importantly whether to think of it as a she or a he...

Yes...gender issues..not mine thankfully..but i have kind of been a bit all over the place with my beautiful little boy..or girl..

First of all i thought ok...seeing as i dont know i will choose a unisex name so it will be relevant whatever it turns out to be..

so i eventually called it freddie...and i kept looking at it as a boy..but then i thought it was more of a girl..so i called her dora...

i havent a bloody clue what sex it is....all the animals i have ever had were sex determined from birth so it was easy... my cat is called jasmine..never had to worry about having to rename her jeremy further down the line...

my tort has been named in the past few days frankie, freddie, pennie, dora and now i have finally left it up to my ten year old niece to name her.

but that then brought up more issues..cause she wanted to call it alicia..or beyonce... and then mum said..but it might be a boy.....

then she said mr. greeny..who is the neighbour next door...

gosh i know im totally rambling now...just wondered what you all did..did you see your torts as sexless..or did you see them as hes or shes..without any proof..

i give up now...little dora will probably now be called beyonce..or maybe dizzy or jayz...who knows...

im hoping shes a she tho

We just chose names that suited the tort. We tried a few over time and went with what suited. Two were named when we didn't know what gender they were, ted and steve. Both turned out to be female but the names have stuck! They still look like a ted and a steve to me!

Just saw this thread on my way to bed. I don't think it matters if you have a girl tort with a boy name, it's not like the boys and girls look hugely different, like people

My two are called Big and Not So, cos they are! My OH chose it, and it's totally stuck. I wanted to go all sophisticated and call them Watson and Crick, but he was having none of it. I figured he should get to name them since he paid for them (well, I contributed £24.67 if I remember right! ) but they're MINE!

Yeah..really the gender issue isnt that much of an issue...i was curious about that aspect though as to how you saw your babies..

the naming thing is turning out to be a problem though...

everyone is objecting !

frankie is a friends nieces name, and also my grandads..( im sure he would have loved my tort to be named after him) but my mum objects to it...bah

pennie turns out to be someones auntie (see above)

every name i choose is someones nephew, gran, dead uncle etc...

unless i call it something that has nothing to do with a human name no one will be happy...

so yeah...think im going to leave it up to my niece for now..see what her friends come up with..she said she would like it to be called aimee like her..and if its a boy i can put a J infront of it... makes sense..

we'll see...

My tortoise is a female (I think), and her previous owners named her Ed. It seemed like a perfectly good name for a female bulldozer - er, tortoise - so I kept it!
Everyone says it's so hard to remember to call her "she" when her name is Ed, but it hasn't caused me any trouble yet. And if she is a he, so be it. I don't breed tortoises, so it's all the same.

For the record, my gecko is named "Spotted Thing Under The Fake Log"

Well the way she has been acting lately the nickname psycho sally is going to stick if she keeps trying to jump off things and self harm !

When my fella came round yesterday, I removed every obstable that she could possibly tip over on and land on her back.

We were chatting away when he suddenly said...' i think your tortoise is drowning' ! ..she had managed to somehow tip over in less than an inch of water in plant pot lid ! just lay there with her legs wiggling about...

psycho sally could always become suicidal sammy ...

!
Though, makes you wonder if torts are like bugs or fish, and tip over more when they're unwell or something.

Ed doesn't tip often, but she's always missing her food and biting her knees when the pieces aren't big enough!
