depends on species, if you want a hibernating tort or not but most that dont hibernate get pretty big, such as redfoots, sulcatas, stars and leopards.
ones that hibernate are hermanns, horsfields, spur thighs, marginated...
depends on the space you have avilable all torts need an indoor table and and outdoor run, and/or a heated shed for those that dont hibernate.
have you seen any that take your fancy?
someone else will probably be alomg shortly with more info

You need to think about whether you want a hibernating or a non-hibernating species? How much room do you have indoors for a tortoise table? Do you have space outside for a safe enclosure for the warmer months?

Once you answer these questions people can advise you what would suit you best.

Size wise the Horsfield is one of the smaller hibernating med torts and of the non-hibernating tropicals a Redfoot is the smallest.

hi i have plenty of room indoors for a table and also plenty of room out doors for an enclosure.
i have decided that the tortoise for me would have to be the ther hermans they are beautiful and are quite a small species also after doing some research i feel much more comfortable with hibernating a tortoise.

so any advise or info any one feels i should know that i may not already know would be very much appreciated i have no intentions of getting one untill i feel comfortable that i have all the knowlege needed to care for one thank you everyone for all their input so far i am very greatful
