Default My Tortoise's Sleeping and eating Patterns

Hi
Lately my tortiose has been sleeping all day and has not been eating much if any..
I was wondering if this is because he could be hibernating or could be the change in weather...

All advice would be much appreciated!!!

Your tortoise will only start to hibernate if the temps drop dramaetically... But even room temp with no heating at this time of year wouldn't be cold enough. Do you know what your temps are?

To get some better replies can you say what type of tort you have and how he/she is kept including temps?

Hello
There is a huge debate about vivariums not being good for tortoises.
Your tortoise needs to be outside this time of year, its a must!! their behavior changes so much. They love being outside 24/7.
Lights should be on 12-14 hours a day
Temps are really important 30c warm 20c cool

Have you had your tortoise wormed? or checked for worms?
Food? no supermarket food weeds weeds weeds
Make sure you bath also, hydration is important

Agree with the above.

Have a look at the indoor housing section in the sticky at the top fo the page and it'll give you lots of great ideas to house the tortoise correctly in an open topped table.

I think the problem may well be his housing and the fact that your lights aren't on for long enough.

Does he have any outside housing/penn at all?

Thanks for all the advice im going to get rid of the vavarium and build a open top tank..

Im also going to increase the time the light is on.

I don't have an outdoor penn due to the weather being terrible most of the time but he is out as much as possible..

What times would be best for the lamp to come on?

Where was the sugestions of good housing for tortoises i could not see the link!!

Thanks again to everyone who wrote on my post..

Stewie's light comes on at 7:00am and off at 8:00pm.

I think these are the links to enclosures the others mentioned:

tort OUTDOOR enclosure info
INDOOR enclosures

Loads of good ideas/pics on those...
