Default Turtle Tub..looks good, bit expensive, how about one of these...

Hey Guys,

A couple of weeks ago I posted to say I was hoping to move my YBS to an outdoor pond and have been looking for ways to house her till summer.

Loved the Zoo Med Turtle Tub, seems like a great product, but the price tag attached made me feel queasy!

So did some digging, had a chat with my dad who's a contractor, and came up with one of these:

FaithfullPlasterers Bath 4ft x 2ft x 1ft | Plasterers Baths | Plasterers Baths | Plasterers & Dry Lining Tools | Builders Tools | Hand Tools | Tooltray.com

They're called a plasterer's bath, made out of the same type of plastic as the turtle tub, and according to my dad, virtually indestructible...

So with a raised platform at one end, or her large turtle dock, some substrate and decor, I reckon this would do to make a pretty good impression of one of Zoo Med's, for a fraction of the price..

What do you guys think? Havent bought one just yet, but feedback is much appreciated!

Also I bought a battery powered gravel filter to siphon the water out of my turts tank and its terrible, really bad quality and VERY short hose, what ones do you guys use and where can i get my hands on one?

Cheers

Sara

to be honest i think fair few people use these, like you said they are virtually the same as the turtle tubs at a fraction of the cost. i was gonna get one myself at one point but the plan for my turts has changed so much im not sure what im doing anymore! the only thing that put me off was the depth. if you moving her to an outdoor pond and need this as a temp home go for it!

You can get them deeper and wider if you want, this was just an example I found Really I want to know she has somewhere to go in winter if it gets too cold for her, but essentially she'll be outdoors from next summer (fingers crossed)

Couple of mine...

Got muds and spotteds in these... I'd fill them up a bit more for a slider (but they do bow when full, so consider putting a wooden frame around them to keep them in shape)

That's exactly what I use for my three, set up as an indoor pond. To be honest, I would like more water volume, but with regular full cleans, it works. One day, when I win my gazillions, I will have the conservatory pond (and the conservatory!) that I want...

Default baths

I have two, one which is sunk in the ground has been used to hibernate RESs despite being on the shallow side. I did have it covered with plastic sheet and it was in a sheltered spot.

Its not the depth of the water its the thickness of ice that matters.
Provided its not all mud, oxygen is usually not an issue either, even with
an ice covering.

Jo does a nifty thing with raised platforms which provides additional real estate without encroaching into the swim space.
