Default Horror Story (Strewn please read)

Ok so i have a question, whats the worst thing you can think of to do with your Turtles?

Want to hear my story?!

I was way with my Mum and the Dogs to Coventry this weekend, we were leavin on Friday morning and coming home on sunday nite, so as normal i asked my Neibour to watch the turts and do the light thingy and the feed thing.

So we get there on friday evening, the house is all good and the turts are tucked up for the nite, safe and sound.
Sat mornin we head off to the dog show, my wee boy does amazin and we are all on a high, then a text:

Heather - "Susan why is there water flowin around your tank?"
Susan - "Because of the filters but you shouldnt be able to tell its "flowin" how much water is in the tank?
Heather - "only about half the tank is full"
Susan - "Your sugarin kiddin me on?!?!"

Shorter verison no she wasnt kiddin me on, the tank had cracked!!

So i have to explain how to save the house, empty the water, and more important save the turts before the rest of 200liters of water emptys onto my upstairs bedroom floor, and make its way down to the newly decorated kitchen!

In the process im thinkin where the hell am a gonna put them till i can get the tank fixed?!
So i call Super Neil and after a phone call and workin out what he was sayin in his oh so English accent i have made a 190liter packet lunch box into their home for the time being although they dont seam to happy and i still dont have a clue how to fix the uv to work, but after 4hours in a goldfish bowl (all Heather had) and frezzin water they seam some what happier.

I am so mad though the tank was less than 6months old, Pets at Home will have a very angry customer to deal with tomorrow evening once i finish my work, in the mean time i have a Mother who is no longer wantin Turtles in her daughters bedroom and she is suggestin we feed them to the duck next door, i have no idea how am gonna afford another tank let alone get one fast enough!

Admin can we please start a collection for me,

p.s just think what could have happened if i used timers and no one checked on them? My advice to everyone is to check your tanks now because this tank showed no signs of stress but it went from looking like this

to the empty tank above.

I think its cracked because of what you have it on? Did you put a good layer of polystyrene under it? Thats a hell of a lot of weight in them tanks, the slightest bow in the surface underneath of a few mm will create a pressure build up and... well crack, If getting another tank that size go to B&Q and buy some sheets of polystyrene insulation thats about an inch thick, I use it under my turtle tanks and it evens out the very small differences in level.

It would have cracked because ther is a slight overhang i can see in the picture. That made pressure so the tank cracked. I made this mistake aswell but with a 6'x3'x3' tank.

think you will find it cracked as already said, no polystyrene underneath it and the unit it is sat on has bowed with the weight of the tank.

What on earth?

How about you buy your own tank for your animals :shakes head:

And the tank cracked because the ends were off the shelf/draws they were on, this meant that the ends were not supported and far too much pressure was on the center of the tank.
