Hi i keep Hermanns and this is fine whilst they are small however you will need something bigger eventually i wouldn't recommend a viv for any tortoise, this is my personal opinion and i know others will disagree but its very hard to regulate temps in a glass tank.

Before anyone else says it - should you be even contemplating buying another tortoise if you cannot afford another vivarium?

Vivariums are not usually recommended for indoor tortoise housing, most keepers choose to have indoor table setups.

An indoor rabbit/guinea pig hutch can work but the tortoise can "climb" and then fall backwards.

Presumably, you have an outside enclosure for your Horsfields for when the weather is good. Of course you will need to quarantine any new additions and the mixing of species is not recommended.

I would also say if you can afford to buy Hermans which are more expensive than Horsfields, then you can afford to by a viv/tortoise table. Get the equipment first and then your new tortoise. That's how it goes. I think you will see the sense of that!

a lot of owners use the indoor rabbit houses especially those with dogs but go for the biggest you can afford, or why not try joining freecycle.org, everything is given away and those indoor cages are often on there. If you are getting a hatchling then one of those cages will last it a couple of years but don't forget they also like to go outside in the summer. Can I also add to the negative replies that you don't need to be a millionaire to have a good home and lots of love to offer, if you had to be rich then I would never have had any of mine!. You can make a table for next to nothing, its only an open topped container and you can put a bit of money away for vets bill etc, which incidently if the tort is well cared for shouldn't be needed very much at all. In all the years I've kept torts the only time I've needed a vet was to have them microchipped. Once you have the initial set ups and try to grow the food or weed pick the costs of keeping the tort are minimal, less than your average dog.
