are dock leaves safe for my tort??

They dont seem to have featured on the weed lis but running low on weeds and need to let them grow a bit more so back to the out doors for a bit, there are loads of nettles and dock leaves, but didnt spot much else on this visit to the school next door....

So are dock leaves safe to give my tort. I picked a thistle leaf he is munching at the moment, but wasn't sure if the dock leaf is on the safe list.

How good / bad are nettles as until reading the thread on weeds on here i never thought about picking them.

Docks are edible but tortoises don't usually eat them due to there bitter taste also be careful feeding dock it has a high oxalic acid content which inhibits the tortoise from using calcium in its body. For this reason probably best avoided or only used in a small amount in a varied diet.

Mine will eat them. Better if you can to give the young leaves and not to often

My Sulcatas love dock leaves that are in their paddock. hey keep them down so it is all new fresh growth

Dock leaves - are a no-no! Full of oxalic acid which binds up the calcium in the tortoises diet and can also cause kidney and bladder stones. Avoid
anything with a high oxalic acid or oxalate content.
