Default YBS Bulb watt? %uvb? Please

Hi for my yellow bellied slider what watt heat lamp should I have and what % uvb bulb and does it matter of its a strip tube or normal bulb type?

I've always had musks and never needed to have a basking lamp really as they were on my window sill they seemed happy being in the heat of the sun when we get it.

Many thanks.

Does 5.0 UVB mean 5% and 10.0 mean 10%?

Ok I see.

Well that doesn't really help me.
Musk aren't the basking species really are they. Although they should be given an option I have only jut got round to doing so with bulbs. They have always had a dock just not the bulbs.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

UVB does not penetrate glass, so putting a tank next to a window and is not providing them with UV.

Musks require UVB as do pretty much every other turtle. In my opinion they should always have the option to bask too, .I often find my musks basking. Providing a dock without the bulbs is pretty pointless as the light spectrum and heat encourages them to haul themselves out.

10% is the same as 10.o. A compact, tube or MVB will be fine, best to decide based on your set-up.

good advice already been given.
you didnt provide proper lighting for your musks, just wondering what kind of set-up you have for your YBS.
these turtles can grow very big, info on your set-up would be very interesting.

Ok cool thank you. I had my musks in a 2ft with a lid and just a dock and that's when I didn't know what I was doing. Then when I got my ybs a few weeks ago. I quarantined it and put them all into a 2ft without a lid and I have been looking at the best type of lamps to get. I've got a UVB lamp just wasn't sure on the bulb and I've just bought a heat lamp with a 60 watt bulb that clips on the side of the tanks. I'm still learning and I don't know why it has taken me so long to get the lamps. But they will be arriving tomorrow and I will be doing allot more reading about care of turtles.

I hope you have removed the lid from the tank? Also a 2 foot tank is too small for 3 turtles.
