Default Hands up who is Hibernating

It appears that the shelled section here, is gaining in numbers of genuine tort keepers, so the big question would be...Who is hibernating their torts and what method are you using??...

I have always used the box method myself, although the fridge method is certainly becoming more and more popular these days...T.T.

PS. Why did the Penquine cross the road?!...

I have 2 adult hermanns in a cooled garage using the box method and a 7 year old in a fridge as she didnt want to hibernate in the garage, stubborn girl!

Also have a 4 month old baby that i didnt hibernate because I bottled it this year he/she will go in the fridge next year though.

Lol - I am hibernating, cannot stand the cold, snuggled deep in hemp, just popped out of the fridge to check my emails!

Seriously though - got umpteen tortoises hibernating (box method) this year as circumstances dictate - would prefer fridge method but not able to this year!

after too many tortoises waking up last year with box method i have fridged the lot this year and its great - temps are stable and the weight loss is almost nothing !

Highly recommended

But i would recommend a good fridge - commerical ones are best as they are fan cooled i would'nt trust my domestic fridge

ooh welcome to rfuk Dazza! Heard so many good things about your shop hun.

i'm hibernating mine in the fridge, at this house i've no suitable sheds/outbuildings so it was really the only option to make sure they had a nice undisturbed sleep

I am hibernating all of mine in the garage (apart from the leos of course)with back up heat and occasional air conditioning for either side fluctuations. Both stat controlled of course
I have used fridges in the past but not happy about the possibility of stat failure Had it happen on an incubator and it made me realise just how much worse it could have been

I have two Ibera that didn't hibernate as they where gravid and restless in close down so they are still a wake .

Just put I 3 yr old Ibera down for a few weks in the fridge and possible some others this week, still ahve all the late hatches up though as they are being sold on so no point now

Big cold outside toilet, and boxes inside large tea chests full of straw and dry leaves.

Woops I have been a bit dishonest, I don't hibernate any of my Tgg's so they are all awake and doing well.

And my horsfield group are also over wintered indoors, they do how ever spend all there time outdoors from late March till early October and I rarely see them spending most of there time dug deep down in there Burrows
