Help with a present :)

for my 16th birthday my mum bought me a Horesfield tort, the little guy is healthy and seems well! I have done some research and they seem easy enough to keep, he's settling into his tank at the moment I have two hides, lots of bedding to hide in, and a small water dish, mums gone to get some lettice "not inceburg" now, but I have heating issues, I have a heat lamp but I dont have anything to control it :/ I don't want the little guy to over-heat, my room is naturally 75-85F anyways so if I add heat lamp too the little guy might get too warm, suggestions please

They need to eat nothing but weeds. Lettice is not very good for them at all.

Pansies are a favorite, and so are petunias.


Yeah, they need the lamp to make a basking spot, (a place to warm up)

He needs a UVB tube and starter fo UV rays, in the warmer weather he can live outside withought a heat lamp or UVB. Horsefields hibernate so you will want to look into that.

ok, here goes:
1. get atleast a 8.0 uvb tube
2. get a thermostat for the lamp. a pulse is best. there around £35.
3. get him out of the tank. i presume its glass or plastic which is a deathtrap for torts. not being harsh but u clearly have not done half enough research. im being serious, this is an animal you need to know its needs.

The constant temp with a thermostat is not good for torts, instead adjust the height of the bulb to get the perfect basking spot

kk dint know that so im learning now. but in a tank or even a viv its too dangerous. until you can get him into a table leave the lamp on about an hour a day becusae the glass might over heat if left on too long.

Oh sorry, a glass tank is bad, vivs are bad, get an open topped tort table or an indoor rabbit cage. Horsefields cannot handle humidity, and tanks and vivs help KEEP humidity HIGH so get a tort table or a rabbit cage.

Hey guys, so the heat lamp should be high and so the glass does not get too hot? I have a 3ft wooden viv, although wont he eat through that? Also I can make a wooden viv easy..
