Default AFRICAN ROCK PYTHON [sabae sabae]

Characteristics:A snake with a big size potential, and a bad reputation to match.May behave a bit more aggresive than other boids.True captive born babies are mostly tame and make good pets.Avoid wild caught ,they are very nervous and may never settle down in captivity. If handled frequently they remain tame and make good pets.Use gloves at first until you establish a relationship, when trust is found between you and the snake you can then remove your gloves and progress. These are a big powerfull constrictor and should be respected.

Requirements: Tropical temeratures of 80-92f viv length should allow the animal to stretch out its own lenght and width a third to half of the animals own lenght.Allways buy captive born specimens if possible easier to adjust and tame and feed.

Diet:Rats,mice rabbits guinae pigs imparla

LIFESPAN AND SIZE: 16'are faily common [200lb] be prepared for this animal to grow big and may live upto 25 + years males grow smaller upto 12"

Distribution: Throughout Africa,south sahara desert

In the wild:These animals are falling quick in numbers due to the skin trades and bush meat,

Heating: A heat source should be warm 1/3 to 1/2 of the viv with a basking floor temp at 88-92F

Lighting: 12 hours on 12 hours off never leave lighting permenently on this causes stress to the animal.

Furnishings and Substrates: Newspaper lining paper i find are good and inexspensive when this snake deficates at 15" you need to get it up easerly as possible, large bowl for the snake to submerge its whole body in clean out and disinfect weekly, hide box to reduse stress make it strong enough for the snake to be able to rest on top of it.

Breeding: Males breed at 7'+ and females at 9'+ sexual maturity in reached within 2-4 yearsNovember to March is the captive breeding season stop all feeding at this time and the animals should be in exelant heath befor ebreeding is attempted, you can induse breeding by redusing the day time lighting and day time temps to the low 80's and lights to 8-10 hours instead of 12,Can lay upto80 eggs at a time incubation temps around 88-90F 70 to 80 days to hatch.

!GREAT SNAKE TO HAVE NOT FOR THE NOVICE KEEPER!
