Default want to know what the acronyms are?

hi guys - i remember when i first started i got confused by all the weird acronyms people kept posting on other forums, so i thought it may be useful to have a list available. feel free to add any i have forgotten

Snakes

arb - argentine rainboa boa
atb - amazon tree boa
bca - boa constrictor amarali
bcc - boa constrictor constrictor (red tail boa)
bci - boa constrictor imperator (common boa)
brb - brazilian rainbow boa
ccp - coastal carpet python
crb - columbian rainbow boa
etb - emerald tree boa
grb - guyanan rainbow boa
gtp - green tree python
jcp - jungle carpet python
prb - peruvian rainbow boa

other terms

cb - captive bred
cf - captive farmed
ltc - long term captive
wc - wild caught (or wild collected)

amel - amelanistic (i.e albino)
anery - anerytheristic
dh - double het
het - heterozygous -het - heterozygous - An organism is a heterozygote or is heterozygous at a locus or gene when it has different alleles occupying the gene's position in each of the homologous chromosomes
hypo - hypomelanistic

W.H.Y - what have you
1.2.3 - refers to sexed animals. in this example 1 male, 2 females and 3 unknown - male.female.unknown

pk - pre killed
fk - fresh killed
ft - frozen thawed

RI - respiratoy infection

PRB can also be Paraguayan rainbow boa

And "Het" does NOT mean "carries a recessive but does not show it". All it means is "the two genes of the pair are different". A Mojave royal python is "het" for the Mojave gene (and a Super Mojave is homozygous for it). That's how someone with a Spider royal (and Spider appears dominant) can get normal-looking offspring out of it - because it's only het for the spider gene and carries a copy of the recessive-to-Spider normal gene!
