Another rehome with a story of woe looking for a good, permanent home.
This male BCI is a young lad of unknown age but approximately 3-4 foot in length, so estimated around 12-18 months but could be older and simply underfed. He was brought into me by another member who had rescued him from a poor situation. When he came to us he had severe mouth rot, scale rot, and was quite underweight. Despite his antibiotics, injections and oral treatments, iodine and poking and prodding, he has never been even remotely aggressive, except around food! He is an excellent strike feeder and feeds as though it might be his only meal for months! He is currently on one large weaner a week, although he could take more he has obviously been underfed for some time and should put the weight on slowly. He is a very powerful strike feeder so tongs must be used. If there is no food around he is very gentle. He has finished his antibiotics and his mouth is cleared up. His scale rot needs no more treatment now, he should be good as new in a few sheds. He does however have two prominent lumps above the nostrils. We believe this to be gaps of air from a previous wound. His top jaw is not quite right - the teeth aren't in the right place, so it looks like he may have dislocated or broken his jaw, and suffered an infection in the bone at some point. This has deemed to not be infected and not be spreading, but he may always have these lumps, or they may disappear over the long term, they do not affect his health. In case that the lumps were inflammatary tissue, he has been on metacam for over a month, which has made no difference whatsoever, so he is being taken off that and he is now medication free. So basically he needs someone to give him attention, a nice little palace, and a regular supply of food. Any takers? Please note - you will be asked to sign documentation stating that you understand that the boa belongs to Reptile Cymru Rescue and agreeing not to sell the boa on for profit. If the boa has to be rehomed if your circumstances change, we will help you with that in any way, but due to people selling on "rescues" for profit, we must stipulate that they are not to be sold on! You will be asked to prove you have the correct and adequate setup before you receive the snake. If you are local, it would be great if we could visit, if not, photos will suffice, or we also have independant home checkers in a few areas.
