I used to think they were..... Then last spring summer I picked up two that have such a strong feeding response that I have been nailed by one of them a few times.....
Luckily it's a feeding bite so once they are out they are calmer, though a 5-6foot snake that you know bites is a worry to handle.... LOL
Though 2 out of 7 isn't a bad average I suppose....

Would having the smell of food on yourself lead to the bite? Has it overshot the tongs? When no food is in the equation (assuming you handle it regularly) is it very laid back?

No smell of food needed....
Just the warmth of your hand and movement is enough to set them going...LOL
I don't use tongs to feed and they rarely miss when feeding...

Someday in the not too distant future, I'll be getting some Bredl's. I had a coastal carpet for years and years, until recently, and she was my favorite snake Ive ever owned. Very docile 98% of the time, and you could tell if she was going to bite.

I don't think I'll ever stop keeping Morelia... And since Bredl's are, imo, the the prettiest of the "carpets", I can't just ignore them!

Also I have a question regarding what I just said... Do you guys consider Bredl's to be carpet pythons?

I think of them as Carpets even thought they have been reclassified and are not......

I Agree, Prettiest by far!
I do consider them as part of the "carpet python" family

Default May, or may-not be a dumb question...

Are Bredl's Pythons named after the Barefoot Bushman, Rob Bredl?
