Default Aplopeltura boa AKA the strangest snake I have ever seen!

I found this in the rain forest near Sepilok, Sabah.

It was curled around about a foot of the ground like you can see in the first picture.

As you can see from the second it had just eaten, I wish I could have seen what but I was too late! I left it be & just took pictures as I didn't want to disturb it after it's dinner.

It was very slow in it's movements & did not show one bit of defensive/aggressive behavior.

It reminds me of ET big time!

Hope you like the pictures.

Woah, that is one freaky creature.

Is it a gastropod eating one?

Ha ha very nice. Do they do well in captivity? Oh wait anything you get hold off seems to do well!

I should ask instead are there any problems in general people seems to have when keeping them?

Nice. Some wild caught ones for sale in classifieds. Not hard to keep but hard to sustain long term, dying after several seemingly successful months. Same even c.b young born to gravid wild caught, with uk snails and giant african snails taken readily but perhaps not containing the correct nutrition.

Lovely looking snakes but not someting I would try and maintain until their nuritional requirements are better understood.

I had them and Pareas carinatus , both lived around 3 years in captivity.
fed on captive bred golden apple snails for me.
I will be getting some more soon

The main problem is the snails they feed on in the wild have much lower calcium content in them and less water in them as they feed on fungai and small dead protien.

The golden apple snakes seem to do really well for them as they feed on algea and small bits of protien so its more natural for them.
