I wouldn't say there's a massive amount of difference overall - the consideration really is what you want to breed for. If you want to play with morphs and put your genetic knowledge to the test then corns are the obvious choice because of the cost. The "ooh what will I get" factor of breeding is very achievable with corns for very little money comparitively. If however you want to breed simply to experience and enjoy the process, then I would go for the snake that appeals to you the most.

With corns you just require a male and female of the correct age/size, and some technical knowledge - how to set up the incubator and stuff like that. Royals are a bit more involved.

This book by Kathy Love Amazon.co.uk: Corn Snakes The Comprehensive Owner's Guide (The Herpetocultural Library): Kathy Love,Bill Love: Books should give you all the info you need on corn breeding. I have an earlier verison of it and it's great. Worth a look.
