Default Corn Not a Happy Bunny

Ok, so got my first corn on saturday, she was fine, all happy had her out for about an hour, no hissing striking or anything, had her out again on Sunday and she was fine again for about 15-30 mins.

Then this morning my girlfriend wanted to check her, took her hide, she quickly moved to the other side of the viv, then when my girlfriend put the hide back down she struck and drew blood, girlfriend tryed picking her up, made her aware she was there, was very slow, and she struck again.

anyone know why she might be striking now, I dont understand why she would suddenly change so much, she was so calm over the weekend, I know that nobody likes monday mornings but still.

P.S she is due to be fed on Wednesday if that helps?

Congrats on new corn. How old/big is she? I think she needs some time to settle before you handle her. Assuming your temps, hides etc are correct and she isn't in too big a space, then time is all it should need.

I don't handle new snakes for about two weeks after getting them. I just change water as needed and leave them to it. Once she is settled and eating happily (at least a couple of feeds) then start handling her.

Be gentle but confident when picking her up, also there is a sticky at the top of the page about handling feisty snakes, have a read there too.

She is about 12 months old, is 1.5ft long roughtly, I think it is that she just needs to settle in, im going to feed her wednesday, then see how she is at the weekend.

What sort of space does she need at her size?

At that size I keep them in 9litre rubs but def no bigger than a 2 foot viv and it will need lots of hides to make her feel safe. Be nice to see some pics once she is settled

So she was only striking at your Girlfriend?

Does your girlfriend wear a strong perfume or something that snakey may not have liked?
