mongrels.

(corn x rat) x (corn x rat)

breeding for the sake of it.

Blimey, I am not sure! I have a rootbeer who is very cute but I don't think I would ever breed from him.

creamsicle x creamsice = creamsicle.

A cream is a corn x emoryi regardless of the percentage. Still a cross, just one with a "brand name"

That is (creamsicle) x (rat x corn) = emoryi x guttata x guttata x obsoleta

So it would visually look like a corn snake but you would have to sell them as hybrids and they would probably grow bigger than pure corns.

Someone, somewhere would sell them on as pure corns.

you see that is my problem.

I am not the biggest fan of crosses, mainly because i'm a fan of purity and rarety but also because, witht he best will in the world as responsibly as YOU sell your stuff it may be resold however many, countless times and bred from. Then sold as a corn or rat rather than a hybrid.

I like to know what I'm buying is what I actually wanted, so don't like contributing to potential future crappiness.

IMO the majority of crossing are people simply feeling they MUST breed because they have a male and a female and the cash might be nice too.

Totally agree with whats been said so far from Mason and Steve.

Just adds to the unknowing dilution of species.

all of the corns we own are breeders...

not trying to produce anythign in particular just want to get the hang of the whole cooling and introducing process etc... getting times and temps right for incubation etc..

what is produced is not an issue.. and neither is the money generated from it (if any)

i have to agree on some levels and disagree on others tho.

i DONT disagree with hybrids... however i do disagree with selling as pures...

my girlfriend was sold a "high white amel" corn and turned out to be a jungle of sorts:P

the reason the "corn" was bought was for breedig purposes.... but seeing as it was a hybrid.. we returned it.. and its now being sold as a hybrid...

----------------------

the argument i REALLY disagree with wich someone will bring up... is that all hybrids are weaker than their parents... wich can be argued for and against all day.....

from what i understand they get all the strengths and all the weaknesses of their parents.. so nothing OTT...

and weather we sit here saying "dont do it" people always will

peace

James

The problem is that the average snake gets sold on more than once. Someone will buy it from a shop and bring it on to a forum such as this in the hope they have got a rare morph or a bargain.

They will be told it's a corn snake because that is what it looks like and the actual origins of the animal will be lost.
