Would be best to get two stats I guess. But I know people do do it like you are saying.

If the conditions of the two tubs are identical, putting it in one of them should make them both OK. Use a seperate thermometer for each and check it. Putting it outside the tubs, in the middle, wont work.

if its on a stat, the whole heat mat will go to the temperature u want..ive got 3 royals in tubs all along a large strip heatmat. the tub at the end contains the probe, all individual boxes have thermometers but all have always had exactly the same temps and seem fine..if the size of the tub is gona be the same, and you want the same temps, then linking them up and sharing the heatmat will be no problem at all..

The whole mat will heat up. All the probe does is switch the heat mat off when it is at the temp you set it at, where ever the probe is, and switch the heat mat on whenever the temp is lower than the set value.

as long as your two tubs are the same,,ie same substrate etc,you should be ok with the probe in one tub, then that will control the heatmat under the both tubs

Put it directly on the heatmat outside of the tubs then adjust the thermostat until the inside of the tubs is at the right warm end temperature.

For example having the thermostat set to 88F should give you about 86F at the warm end of the tub.

Yeah,

You can put the two tubs on the heat matt and put the stat directly on the matt as well. As mentioned above heat mats can contain hot spots, with part slightly hotter than the other, but I recon there is a negligible chance of this causing levels of danger. One thing to note is that the you must ensure the stat is secured enough for it not to come off.

Cheers,

Jonny.
