Default Why does he 'shrug' me off him....

Had my new burm home 2 days now. he's 2 yrs old and 8ft (underfed when born).
Thing is, he handled fine in the shop but today I went to get him out and when I gently put my hand on his side to pick him up he shrugged/pushed my hand away very forcefully.

do you think he' still just settling in? He's always lying at the front of his viv and not hiding. he seems totally comfortable until the viv door opens and I touch him.

Thanks

Thanks. I was worried he'd become accustomed to not being handled and be difficult to handle if I left him for very long. I'll try leaving him.

He is due a feed tomorrow. would you go ahead with that? (hoping he doesnt associate every subsequent opening of the viv door with food lol)

first of all i would feed or try when they are due with any snake! and try and tap train it so you tap it on the head every time you are getting him out then when you dont tap will associate it with feeding time!

Hmmm... i dunno, i have attempted.. and succeeded feeding a few days after arrrival, but that was baby snakes and i always kept contact to a minimum so i dont disturb the setlling process. I feed on really long tongs n stuff... so snake really doesnt notice me.

But then again i DO NOT have a burm, and that really changes the situation.... i wud probably leave it, i am pretty positive ur snake wont be harmed by missing a meal this week.

Cheers

Rob

Thanks for the replies.

Tap training? On the head? Wow, I dont think he'll like that! lol

he's super super alert. When I slide the viv door along only an inch he snaps his head up and watches. He did that before I got him too. Interesting to learn about his temperament. hope he end up with a good one. dont fancy him being huffy when he's 14 ft.

I was going to look into types of training etc to make sure he's clear on when it's my hand and not a jumbo rat lol.
