Default Live Feeding Laws.

In the UK is live feeding rodents illegal.

Yes or No.

There are mixed opinions some say it is illegal, some say it isnt.

It is legal in America thats for sure but is it really legal here?

Please include Proof/Quotes etc in your post.

if you read the post directly above this one (for now anyway) called live feeding laws it should cover what you need to know.

the law says its legal but i believe that you can still be prosecuted for doing it due to legislation that was introduced under animals rights laws.
the law contradicts itself all the time anyhow.

besides which i think feeding live is wrong anyhow, only under extreme circumstances should people feed live, most snakes and lizards and frogs will feed on prekilled mice and rats anyhow, a lot of these people who feed live (not everyone) just do it to get their jollies anyhow.

I don't do it and wouldn't unless i had to, but for the life of me i can't see why it is wrong

It's more expensive and not particularly neccessary, but wrong ? Nahh

Default Legal

from the secretary of states standards of modern zoo practice:

Although the Protection of Animals Acts 1911 to 1964 do not prohibit the feeding of
animals with live prey, the live feeding of vertebrate prey should be avoided save in
exceptional circumstances, and then only under veterinary advice. Where any live prey
must be used, its welfare must be considered as well as any potential injury which might
be caused to the predator.

i think animal lovers should have a natural dislike of seeing an animal suffer,
the morality of a person putting a live animal into a predators enclosure is questionable, especially if there is no reason why the predator cant or wont take prekilled prey

while its true that many are too sqeamish to witness anything that goes on day to day in nature, its no good trying to take the moral high ground just because you feed defrost rodents...............just means you let someone else kill them and avoid the guilt or whatever
