Default Snow X Snow Cornsnake eggs!! How the heck did I end up with Amels and Snows!!!

As the title says, i have a clutch of 15 eggs hatching from a snow X snow corn breeding and so far I have one amel hatchling and one snow...I thought that was genetically impossible for that to happen?? Shouldn't snow X snow produce 100% snow hatchlings?? Anybody have any ideas?

That was my understanding as well , the only male I own and she has been mated with is a male snow so I really don't understand how it's genetically possible...

When did you get the female? Any chance she could of retained sperm from a previous breeding?

Couldn't be het amel if both parents were visual snows as they would both be homozygous recessive for anery and amel.

The only thing I can think of is that one of your snows is actually a blizzard. This would mean that each 'snow' carries an incompatible anery strain (normal snow is homozygote for anery type 'A', blizzard is homozyote for anery type 'B' (AKA 'charcoal').

This would make your offspring 100% amel 100% het anery het charcoal.

However, you also have had a 'snow' come out. For this to occur one of the adults must also be het for the other anery type!

Please post photos of both parents and all the whole litter to help us out!

Cheers

Andy

p.s. thanks for a juicy genetics question! makes a change from 'what do I get if...'

I also thought about the blizzard issue , but I dont know enough about genetics to think it through but I think that might be the answer.

Will be interested to see what people with a good knowledge of genetics think.
